A new use of AI: Detecting cow farts from space 🛰️

Japanese researchers have developed an AI-based method to better detect methane emissions on a global scale.

Researchers from Kyoto University, Japan, have developed an AI-based method to detect methane emissions on a global scale.

By utilizing multispectral satellite imagery, a type of remote sensing, this new technique can identify methane emissions from its source with great detail and accuracy, paving the way for a systematic quantification method.

👉🏻 About 60% of today’s methane emissions comes from human activities, with agriculture as the number one source of methane. Because methane is more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide, reducing its global levels is vital to fighting climate change.
